Determination of Risperidone by the Lc/ms Method

Risperidone belongs to the new generation of neuroleptics. It is a benzisoxazole derivative. This drug is used in the treatment of acute and chronic schizophrenic psychoses. A method of risperidone determination in whole blood was developed in the course of carrying out an expert investigation concerning a female multi-drug intoxication. Liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS) with atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation (APCI) was used in the analysis of risperidone in blood. Alkaline liquid-liquid extraction was used to preconcentrate risperidone from the sample. The method was validated. It was shown that the elaborated LC/MS method allowed us to quantitate risperidone within the range of therapeutic and toxic blood concentrations.
